China’s Bilibili Goes Global to Challenge YouTube, Reportedly Pays $0.70 Per 1,000 Views
Chinese video-sharing giant Bilibili is making a major push to challenge YouTube’s global dominance. Often referred to as “China’s YouTube,” the platform has officially relaunched its international app, removing significant sign-up barriers and actively recruiting overseas creators to build its global library.
With 376 million monthly active users already under its belt, Bilibili’s latest expansion could introduce a massive new distribution network for digital creators.
Passport Verification Removed for Global Users
Historically, one of the biggest hurdles for international creators wanting to upload content to Bilibili was its strict real-name registration policy. Previously, overseas users were required to submit passports or official government IDs just to sign up.
In its latest update, Bilibili completely removed this requirement for its international application. Global users can now register and upload videos using a standard email address, making the onboarding process as seamless as signing up for YouTube or TikTok. The new international app launched on Android globally on August 19, 2026, with the iOS version and a dedicated English-language website marked as “coming soon”.
To support this expansion, Bilibili has also started recruiting community managers and localization staff across Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, Istanbul, Mexico City, and São Paulo.
The Reported $0.70 Per 1,000 Views Payout
To attract international talent, Bilibili is leveraging its Creator Incentive Program. Industry reports currently circulating suggest that creators could potentially earn an estimated base incentive of around $0.70 per 1,000 views on the platform.
However, this figure is not an official, guaranteed global CPM. According to platform policies, Bilibili’s payouts are not calculated by views alone. Actual creator compensation fluctuates based on multiple factors, including:
- Audience engagement and watch retention.
- Content category and quality.
- Advertising revenue sharing, which operates separately from the base creator incentive.
Bilibili’s monetization ecosystem also heavily relies on direct fan support, virtual gifting, and an upcoming sponsorship marketplace to connect creators directly with international brands. AI Dubbing and Moderation
Language barriers remain a challenge for a platform transitioning out of the Chinese domestic market. To tackle this, Bilibili’s relaunched app features integrated AI dubbing, allowing viewers to watch international content in their native languages. Furthermore, the company is hiring product managers in Singapore to build a new, cross-language AI content moderation system from scratch.
