ChatGPT Voice

ChatGPT Voice is one of the strongest general-purpose AI voice assistants because it combines natural conversation with the wider ChatGPT toolset. The ability to interrupt, ask follow-up questions, switch to text and use supported web search makes it much more useful than a basic voice command system.

The main limitation is that voice usage and available features depend on the plan, region and device. Free users get limited access, while Plus users get broader usage. It can also make mistakes, so I wouldn't rely on a spoken answer alone for medical, legal, financial or other high-stakes decisions.

ChatGPT Voice lets you have spoken conversations with ChatGPT instead of typing every request. You can ask questions, brainstorm ideas, learn a topic or talk through a problem while ChatGPT responds aloud. The conversation remains connected to the same chat, so you can switch back to text whenever speaking isn't convenient.

The current Live experience is powered by GPT-Live and is designed around more natural back-and-forth conversation. It can listen and speak at the same time, handle interruptions and, where supported, use web search, memory, text and images during the conversation.

What I like most about the setup is that voice isn't treated as a separate chatbot. You're still working inside ChatGPT, so the conversation can move between speech and text depending on what you're doing. It makes sense for students, professionals, people who brainstorm out loud and anyone who finds typing slower for certain tasks.
